Welcome to the Fortress of Solitude Trophy Room!
(1958 Sears Catalog Superman costume illustration)
Welcome to the latest in the family of Jon's Geek Blogs, which have all spun out of Random Acts of Geekery! Here at the Fortress of Solitude Trophy Room, you'll find photos of all kinds of Superman collectibles and related stuff, seven days a week!
Since the Man of Steel hasn't been licensed nearly as much as the Caped Crusader, I don't have as big a backlog of files of Superman items as Batman, so you'll more often than not only see two items here, as opposed to three or more... but there may be exceptions! I'll probably also just do a single post with multiple items, instead of the multiple posts of single items you see in the Batcave blog.
So, I hope you'll stop by here every day to see what vintage Superman goodies I have to share, starting with this one:
If you grew up in the 1960s or 1970s, you probably recognize the "Movie Viewer" shown here, which was most popular in the 1960s and 1970s featuring Star Trek, Land of the Giants, and other TV shows, but the same design was being used in the 1940s, as you can see, and Superman was one of the more popular "movies" you could see with i!
Of course, these weren't really movies... they were film strips you could look at through the viewer, one frame at a time... kind of like a View-Master without the 3-D or the Give-A-Show Projector without the, er, projector!
If I ever get any of these old film strips, you can be sure I'll find a way to present them here!
